Visiting Milan in December? What to do!

I am so excited my most favourite month of the year is approaching! I think you can tell by how eager I am to share with you activities for the month, well in advance. I just love to walk the Duomo square to hear the Christmas songs blasting over the speakers – especially “all I want for Christmas”. The season just makes me feel so warm-hearted and lifts my spirit. Either you are a local or visiting Milan this December,  you will find my recommendations handy. Here you go: 

Cradle of Filth Concert

On 2 December 2018 by 8:00 pm,  the Cradle of Filth – an English black metal band formed in Suffolk in 1991 will be at Live Club (33.9km from Milan). They are among the most successful bands of the genre along with Dimmu Borgir.

Concert: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Live

The third chapter of J.K Rowling’s masterpiece Hary Potter – Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – is brought to real life thanks to the dedicated soundtrack tour. There will be an epic audiovisual experience by Orchestra Italiana del Cinema staged for the first time ever in Milan, featuring the participation of an orchestra and a choir made up of over 130 musicians performing on the score written by John Williams.

The date is the 27th of December from 8:00 pm to 10:45 pm. You can purchase your ticket at TicketOne.

New Year’s Eve Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at Milan’s Auditorium Concert

From December 29 to January 1, 2019, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony Re minor op. 125 – the protagonist of laVerdi’s New Year’s Eve programme will be holding. Traditionally conducted by Maestro Claus Peter Flor, the concert features the participation of both the Symphonic Orchestra and the Symphonic Choir Giuseppe Verdi.

Opening Night Season of Teatro alla Scala

The First night at La Scala Theatre, on December 7th, is a sophisticated melange of culture, showbiz, glamour, and entertainment. Every year a series of free events – concerts, performances, lectures, and workshops – are dedicated to the opera through the city. Go to the official website for more information.

The Sant’Ambrogio Festivities

For all Milanese, this two-day festivity for the Immaculate Conception and Sant’Ambrogio – the patron saint of the city – on December 7th and 8th is the start of the Christmas season and is a fun-packed period full of exciting cultural and recreational events.

Visit Milan Christmas Markets

From 11th December 2018 to 6th January 2019. An outdoor seasonal event with over 60 market huts will spread around the magnificent Duomo of Milan, dedicated to traditional Christmas products like Xmas decorations, baubles for the tree, nativity cribs, Befana stockings for the Epiphany and so on.
